How To Create a Homepage for a Home Service Business
Are you beginning to create your home service business website, but are stumped on what to include on the first page (your homepage)?
This is one of the biggest areas people can get stuck, especially if they have never created a website before.
However, once you start viewing your homepage as a sampling of each of the other pages on your site, it can be easier to think of content for it.
In this article, we will cover what you should know about creating a homepage and the seven main things you should aim to include on your homepage.
7 Sections To Include on Your Homepage for Your Home Service Business Website
A navigation menu of your services
Homepage cover image and headline
A section that covers each of your services
A general information section and CTA
A general company About Us section
A section that highlights your portfolio (optional)
A section that highlights your careers
1. A Navigation Menu of Your Services
In general, your navigation menu section will include the following elements:
Your logo (typically on the left)
A banner menu that leads to pages
Phone number or Contact Us button
A search functionality (optional)
Here are some examples of how some contract service companies have formatted their navigation menu:
Example Navigation Menu 1:
Example Navigation Menu 2:
Example Navigation Menu 3:
As you can see, they all contain the same core elements, but can vary greatly stylistically. One thing to keep in mind is that this section can start out plain and be expanded later on.
Most of these companies probably started out with a simpler format and expanded their navigation menu as they had more information they wanted to place in it.
Another thing to note is that this section is easier to create after you have mapped out your website structure, because then you will know which pages you want to include in the main navigation.

2. Homepage Cover Image and Headline
The next section of your homepage will include your homepage banner image. This image will help represent the type of services you offer so that when customers see it, they immediately have a sense for what you do.
For example, if you have a landscaping business, this could be a picture of a freshly manicured lawn or well designed landscape.
If you have an HVAC business, this could be a picture of your fleet of HVAC vehicles, an external unit, or a picture of the inside of a home (with an HVAC unit in sight if possible).
If your business is glass repair and installation, you could have a picture of clean and well maintained glass for a car, home, or office building.
In addition to having a cover image right below your navigation menu, you should also place a headline and CTA button (if applicable) like these contract service business websites have:

The length and style of this section will depend on your company’s style and the type of information you want to include here.
The image can be as long or short and you can either include a headline and a CTA button, or just a headline.
The headline should provide a very high level description of your services and your service area, like:
“Quality Residential and Commercial Cleaning Services in North Carolina”
“Best Plumbing Services In and Around Florida”
“Reliable Heating and Cooling System Services in Virginia”
3. A Section That Covers Each of Your Services
The next section you should include is a section to highlight and link to your top service pages.
For example, this plumbing company links to their top services: Water Heaters, Drain Cleaning, Repair & Installation, and Water Filtration.
This Cleaning company created service cards to help display all of the sub-services included in their overarching services Residential Cleaning, Commercial Cleaning, Organizational Services, and Additional Services:
Depending on the services you offer, you may want to format this section slightly different and include more or less information.
The cleaning company above probably included cards with more information about the sub-services so that they could elaborate on the services included in their “Additional Services” category.
4. A General Information Section and CTA
Your general information section will be a space where you can go a little more in depth about your services and your service area since the sections above only should provide high level information.
The section will usually be laid out with an image on the left or the right and then a headline with a paragraph below on the opposite side:
You can include information about how long you have been servicing the area, the types of services you offer customers, the areas you offer services, examples of neighborhoods and business parks that you have serviced (depending on if you offer residential or commercial services, or both).
5. A General Company About Us Section
Your About Us section should give customers insight into why you do what you do and why you are passionate about helping customers like them. This section should incorporate elements from your About Us page, like:
Company core values
When the company was founded
What sets your business apart
You will not want to cover too much in this section because the goal of this section will be to provide high level information about your company and then link them to your About Us page to find out more.

6. A Section That Highlights Your Portfolio (Optional)
Whether you do home remodeling, landscape design, or another visually centered service, you can also include a portfolio section on your homepage.
This portfolio section will be a collection of your photos from your projects, either set up as a grid or a sliding carousel.

You can also set up this section to be a collection of before and after photos of your landscaping projects.
7. A Section That Highlights Your Careers (Optional)
If you are actively expanding your team or have plans to, you can include a section about your careers and link to a dedicated careers page on your website.
The careers section should be kept at a high level to bullet points about your culture or a list of the jobs you are actively hiring for.
