How to Write a Landscaping Website Homepage

Writing the homepage for your landscaping company website can be difficult, especially since you have probably never written a homepage before.

It is one of the first pages your customers will land on and will cover a bit of everything. With this in mind, the key is to think about what your customers want to find on your site.

At Blue Trade Media, we have come across many homepages - some of them written effectively and some of them written less effectively. Fortunately, the home pages that are written and structured effectively have a repeatable format.

In this blog, we will go over how you can create a landscaping homepage that is designed to direct your customers to the information they need and provide them with useful context about what landscaping services you offer.

How to Structure Your Landscaping Website Homepage

It goes without saying - the homepage of your landscaping company website is one of the most important pages you can have on your website. This is one of the main pages your customers will see and interact with.

When creating your landscaping company website, you will usually include the following sections:

  1. Header/ navigation bar that directs customers to your services

  2. A cover image and services section with brief descriptions

  3. A section to cover general information about what you do

  4. An about us section to provide context for customers and job applicants

  5. A preview of your work in a photo collage that links to your portfolio

  6. A careers section to inform job prospects about your career opportunities

Within each of these sections, you should consider what you will include on your service pages and main overarching website pages and use these sections to lead customers to those pages to learn more.

The goal is for the majority of your homepage content to be geared towards your customers, but as you get lower on the page (around the sixth section and below), you can start to focus on culture and then careers.

For each section after your header/navigation bar section, you should also include a heading that encapsulates them, like:

Cover Image/ Services Section = Offering Quality Residential & Commercial Landscaping Services to the Triangle

About Section = The Mission of Green Landscaping

Careers Section = Landscaping Careers with Green Landscaping

6 Sections to Include on Your Landscaping Homepage

1. Landscaping Website Header/ Navigation Bar

In this section, you will include your logo, phone number, navigation menu, and any high level information you choose to include here. Each company structures their navigation differently, but the best navigations are ones that consider what customers are looking for.

For example, picture you are a homeowner who has landed on your landscaping company website. You may have questions like:

“Do they offer residential landscaping services?” (then you see “Residential Services” in their main navigation that shows that they do)

Your next question may be “What type of residential landscaping services do they offer?” which is immediately answered by the drop down of pages with names like “Lawn Maintenance,” “Landscape Design,” and “Landscape Installation.”

Fortunately for you, the service you are looking for is within that list: “Landscape Design.”

This is how you should base the structure of your website and all of the content you include on your pages - what does your customer want to see and what should they know?

2. Cover Image/ Services Section

Right under your contact information and navigation bar, you will want to get straight into your services (in case your customers have decided to bypass the navigation menu and want to learn more from your homepage).

There are a few ways you can go about this section. The most common options are to either include links to your overarching service pages (option 1) or create sections that highlight the overarching services with the sub services listed as well (option 2).

Option 2:

3. General Landscaping Content Section

Your general content section is usually used to highlight the background of your company, the services you offer, the areas you service, how long you have been in business, and a summary of the projects you have completed (some businesses will include a count of the amount of jobs they have done).

To optimize this section, you should not just list all of the cities you service (especially if it is well over 3 or 4). The section should include clues to your area that allow Google to form a more complete idea of your service area without being spammed by city keywords. Here is an example of how you could do that:

“We offer a wide range of services like lawn maintenance, landscape design, and landscape installation to our Triangle, NC customers. We proudly serve neighborhoods across Raleigh, Cary, Wake Forest, and the rest of the Research Triangle area, with some of our most notable design projects having been in Preston, Hedingham, and Bedford. 4. About Section

You can use this section to go into more detail about:

  • How your company was created

  • Where you started (size, location, etc.)

  • Where you are now

  • Company core values

  • Your company’s mission

A good way to get inspiration for this section is to ask yourself why you got started in the landscaping business, why you are passionate about helping customers, and other information that you would want to know about a business you would want to get services from.

5. Landscaping Gallery/ Portfolio

If you have photos or videos of your landscaping projects, this is a good spot on your homepage to highlight them and then link to your whole portfolio. This will give customers a good visual of your work so they can picture how their residential or commercial landscape could look.

Even if you provide general lawn care services that may not seem as flashy as landscaping design projects or ground leveling, you can still include before and after photos of lawns you have improved.

6. Landscaping Careers Section

The careers section of your homepage is best placed as the sixth section or last section on your homepage. The reason you will not want to include this section at the top of your homepage (except for a page on the navigation bar) is because your landscaping website is to generate business first and foremost.

Most people searching for jobs are also accustomed to either checking for a careers page in the navigation menu of your website or going to the bottom of your website to see if they can find a link in the footer of your homepage (“footer” is just a fancy name for that bottom bar that repeats across your pages).

In your landscaping careers section, you can cover information about your careers generally or you can also feature a list of the roles you are hiring for and the salary or hourly rates and the hours for them.

Create a Landscaping Company Homepage That Helps Grow Your Business

To get your landscaping homepage started, you should include easy navigation to key pages, links to your services, general information about your services, details about your company’s story, and information about your career opportunities.

The great thing about creating a landscaping company homepage is that you can always add information and sections after you create a strong foundation of information.
