What Are FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) for a Contract Service Business Website?

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) can sound like a familiar concept, but it might be confusing to conceptualize how they fit into your contract service company website.

You may be wondering “What is the purpose of including a lot of questions?” - the key is in providing those commonly asked questions and including the answer to them.

At Blue Trade Media, we have spoken to many business owners about the services they provide and the problems they solve. The things that are obvious to you about your trade are not always obvious to your customers.

In this article, we will cover examples of FAQs on contract service business websites, how to create FAQs, and the purpose of FAQs so that you can educate your prospective customers and increase your website traffic.

An Example of a FAQ on a Contract Service Business Website

To start off, let’s look at an example of an FAQ for a plumbing company in Durand, Wisconsin, in the image below:

This FAQ is asking “How much should I pay for a plumber near Durand, WI?” and the answer covers some key factors that a customer will want to know like an average range for plumbing services, how the specific scenario (if it is an emergency service) affects cost, and a breakdown of potential hourly rate.

Now, the key here is that even when you make FAQs about pricing, you are not spelling out what your pricing is - you are providing averages and ranges of the general rate in your area.

Your pricing could be higher or lower than this (although ideally, it is sort of within these ranges) and you should be as transparent as you can be with your customers about your pricing on your website.

That is not to say that you have to lay out strict pricing that doesn't fluctuate. In the contract service industry, there is usually always a “it depends on ___” factor for every job.

However, customers want as close of an idea as possible so they can assess whether they can afford your services.

That is where you put a range and then explain “it varies based on ___.” Like this:

“Our lawn-cutting services usually range from $50-$250 per visit. Some things that can cause this price to vary include:

  • The size of your lawn

  • The complexity of your landscape

  • Whether you want additional services

Depending on the service you are providing pricing for, this could include more or less detail. The key is to provide enough information to where your customers know they can trust you to be upfront with them about costs.

How To Create FAQs for a Contract Service Business Website

FAQs can go on any of your pages, but they are especially great to include on your location (city) pages since you will most likely already cover content on your service pages that might appear like questions and answers to Google.

When you are planning out these FAQs, you should take stock of how many city pages you have and what types of services you want to promote with them.

For instance, you might offer plumbing and HVAC services. If this is the case, you will want to sprinkle in a few FAQs about HVAC and a few about plumbing for each page. It is also good to include questions geared towards your service area.

An example set of FAQs for a HVAC and plumbing company servicing the Florida area might look like:

  1. How much does HVAC service cost in Florida?

  2. What is the average life of a water heater in Jacksonville, Florida?

  3. How to tell if I have a plumbing emergency?

At a bare minimum, FAQ sets on your city pages should include a question about the specific service(s) the page is promoting and general questions that customers are asking about your type of services in your area.

To gain more insight into the type of questions people might want to know, you can utilize Google search. Just type in the type of service and location you want to see questions about (e.g. hvac services florida) and scroll until you see “People also ask.”

As you click into each question to learn more, even more questions will populate. You should focus on key topics like: cost, time, advice, and other topics customers ask when they usually need immediate service.

The Purpose of FAQs for a Contract Service Company Website

The benefit of adding FAQs to your website is that you will not only educate the customers that are browsing through your site already, you will also be able to attract many more new customers.

How do you do that exactly? Creating effective FAQs helps your website rank at the top of search results in the form of a “featured snippet” like the example in the image below:

If your FAQ doesn't appear here, it might end up in the “People also ask” section we referenced earlier.

The value in showing up in either of these sections is that most people will be typing in these kinds of questions because they need services. If your website is the website they find their answer, there is a higher likelihood that they will reach out to your business first.

Create FAQs To Become Found By More Customers

FAQs are one of the most straightforward methods to draw in more customers to your website through simply providing answers to common questions.

As you read through this article, you might have thought of a few questions your customers commonly ask you. If you can provide an answer in about 200 words or less, it is a great question to include as an FAQ on your site.
