How To Write a Roofing Service Area Page
As you are creating your roofing company website, you are probably wondering how to include information about the areas you service.
To do this, you can create a service area page and then use that page to link out to city-specific pages.
A service area page is an effective way for roofing companies to optimize for local search and communicate what areas they service.
In this article, we will discuss the sections you can include on your roofing service area page and what type of information you can include in each.
4 Sections To Put On Your Roofing Service Area Page
Your roofing service area page will provide a spot for prospective customers to check and see if you offer services in their area. Some sections you can include on this page are:
A general section about the locations you service
A status or interactive map of your service area
A list of the cities you service and links to city pages
(Optional) an introductory video about your services
While you will want to provide enough information for customers to learn more about your service area, you should keep the information on this page high level since you will be going more in depth on individual city pages.
1. A General Section About the Locations You Service
Your general section will usually contain two key elements: a heading and one to two paragraphs. We generally recommend writing the paragraphs first and then creating the heading based on that information.
In the first one to two paragraphs on your service area page, you should cover information about the areas you service and the types of services you offer.
For your roofing company, this could sound something like “Blue Trade Roofing provides quality roofing repair, maintenance, and replacement services in the Heart of Virginia. Does your roof need to be repaired or replaced because of a recent severe storm? Are you noticing heavy leaf coverage on your roof and in your gutters due to overhanging trees? Whatever the case may be, we can help!”
The key with this section is to brainstorm the information you want customers to know if this is the first or second page they are landing on.
This should be high level enough that it doesn't take up too much space on the page because the most important information on the page is your map and list of cities.
For your heading and introductory paragraphs, you should consider how you can best describe your service area and services at a high level.
In our example for “Blue Trade Roofing,” we chose to use “Heart of Virginia” to describe a Virginia-focused service area. Another way you could describe this area would be “Central Virginia.”
After you have found a great nickname or all encompassing name for your service area, you can include this in both the heading and the intro paragraphs.
The next step is to determine how you want to broadly describe your services. If you solely offer roofing services and don’t also dabble in gutters or siding, you could describe your services in a heading as “Roofing Repair and Replacement.”
If you do offer additional services like gutter services or siding services, you could describe it as “Roofing and Gutter Services,” “Roofing and Siding Services,” or “Roofing, Siding, and Gutter Services.”
2. A Status or Interactive Map of Your Service Area
The next section you should cover on your roofing service area page is your service area map.
This map can be a static or dynamic map. On this map, you will want to plot points of different cities you service.
To start out, we recommend that you create a static map since it is more straightforward and requires less advanced knowledge to implement.
To create your own static map, go to “Google My Maps” and do the following:
Open the menu in the top left
Select “Your Places”
Select the “Maps” tab
Click “Open My Maps”
Once you have opened a new map, you will title this “[Insert Company Name] Service Area Map” and you will type in cities that you service and add them to your map.
After all of the pins are on your map, you should draw a boundary around them, encompassing each of the parts of these cities that you would travel to.
Once complete, you can screenshot this map and add it as an image to your roofing service area page.

3. A List of the Cities You Service and Links to City Pages
Before you list out the cities you service, you should create a heading that will describe the list, like:
“Areas We Serve In and Around Central Virginia”
“Roofing Service Area In and Around Central Virginia”
“View Central Virginia Cities We Offer Roofing Services In”
“Select Your City To Learn More About Our Roofing Services”
As we mentioned in the section above, you will want to use a high level nickname for your service area headings. This allows you to be more specific about the area you service if you don’t offer services through the entire state.
After you have the heading nailed down, you can list out each of the cities within your service area that you will service. For central virginia, this list might look like:
Richmond
Charlottesville
Fredericksburg
Lynchburg
Petersburg
Staunton
Ashland
Culpeper
Waynesboro
Hopewell
Colonial Heights
Farmville
Lexington
Bedford
One thing to keep in mind is that this list can start out as large or as small as it needs to be. The amount of cities you list should be based on cities that you are realistically able to support.
If you start with a small list, you can always add cities to the list as you expand your service area and team.
4. (Optional) an Introductory Video About Your Services
One thing some business owners will do to bolster their service area page is to create an introductory video about their services and the areas they service.
If you do choose to create a video, you should plan it out ahead of time and think about what you want to cover within it. The goal is to create a 1-3 minute video that gives customers more information about your business.
This video can cover things like:
The common roof issues customers deal with
What your customers should know about roofs
The types of roofing services you offer
The services that you do not offer
What makes your roofing services different
After you brainstorm this information, you can consider what order you want to present the information in the video to best capture prospective customer’s attention.
