How To Write a Service Area Page for a Home Service Business Website

Once you know what a Service Area page is for your home service business website, the next thing you are probably wondering is “how do I create one?”

Fortunately, this is a straightforward page that contains four key sections.

Many of the home service business owners we have helped create a Service Area page for their site were able to make an effective Service Area page that helped clarify their service area.

In this blog, we will walk through the four sections you can cover on your Service Area page and the type of information to include in each section.

4 Sections To Include on a Service Area Page on a Home Service Business Website

Your service area page is where customers can go to learn where you offer services and if you offer services in their area. It will contain sections like:

  1. An introductory paragraph about locations you service

  2. A still or interactive map of your service area/ locations

  3. A list of the locations your service and links to their city pages

  4. (Optional) a video about your services and where you offer them

Most of the information you include on this page will be fairly high-level because you will be able to delve into your services and service areas more on your individual location (or city) pages.

1. An Introductory Paragraph About Locations You Service

In case customers don’t know all of the services you offer, you should use this section to describe your services and service area broadly.

For instance, if you offer services like furnace repair, HVAC installation, AC repair, AC maintenance, and furnace maintenance, you could describe your services as “HVAC repair, maintenance, and installation” or “Heating and cooling repair, maintenance, and installation.”

To describe your service area at a high level, you should consider how people usually refer to the area that you service. For example, if you service Northern Virginia (Fairfax, Arlington, Sterling, etc.) you may refer to your service area as “Northern Virginia,” “NoVa,” or “Northern VA.”

If you provide services to customers in East Tennessee, you may refer to your service area as “The Great Valley of East Tennessee" or simply "The Valley."

Combined, describing your services and your service area could sound something like this:

“[Insert company name] offers HVAC repair, maintenance, and installation services in and around The Great Valley of East Tennessee.”

After this sentence, you can use the rest of this section to describe other things you offer and things customers should know. However, you should generally keep this section to 200 words or less since you will want the main focus of this page to be the location pages you link to within it.

If you offer commercial services, you should also include examples of clients you serve. In this example below, this company mentions it in the first sentence, specifying that they offer services to restaurants, schools, colleges, and more:

2. A Static or Interactive Map of Your Service Area/ Locations

Right below your introductory section, you will want to include a visual representation of your service area in the form of a service area map.

Some companies create a static map to start, while others create a dynamic map that customers can click individual locations on.

If you want to start with the easier option, you can create a static map of your service area on Google My Maps. To do this, navigate to Google Maps and do the following:

  1. Open the menu on the top left

  2. Click “Your Places”

  3. Click the “Maps” tab

  4. Click “Open My Maps”

Once you have navigated to this screen, you can plot out the points of each of the locations you service and then draw a boundary around those points to create your service area map.

Once you do that, you can either screenshot your service area map to create a static map or you can embed the code of the map and add it to your Service Area page.

3. A List of the Locations Your Service and Links to Their City Pages

After your map, you should include a section where you list your service areas. This section should have a title like:

  • “HVAC Service Area in and Around West Virginia”

  • “View Virginia Cities We Offer HVAC Services In”

  • “View Our Virginia HVAC Customer Reviews by City”

  • “Select Your City Below To Discover More About Our VA HVAC Services”

As we mentioned in our previous article “What is a Service Area Page For Your Home Service Business,” you should select cities, rather than towns, that represent your service area.

If your service area is Eastern Tennessee, your list of cities may look like:

  • Knoxville, TN

  • Chattanooga, TN

  • Gatlinburg, TN

  • Pigeon Forge, TN

  • Oak Ridge, TN

This list should be composed of cities you regularly service and potentially cities you don’t service that you would be willing to travel to to provide services.

After you list each of the cities you service, you should start creating location pages (also known as city pages) for each of these. To learn more about location pages, read our article “What Is a City or Location Page for a Home Service Business.”

As you keep adding new cities to your service area, you can add them to this list and create their own dedicated location page.

4. (Optional) A Video About Your Services and Where You Offer Them

Some business owners will create a high level video about their services and why they are passionate about serving the customers in that area.

If you create this type of video, you should plan it out before filming it and ensure that it represents a quick view into what customers may want to know about your company and services.

Some good things to focus on in this video are:

  • Your customer’s pain points

  • What you customers should know

  • The key services you offer

  • Services you offer that others don’t

  • What makes your services different

Once you have this information laid out, you can consider the sections you would like to cover first and the order in which the video will go.
