How To Write an Overarching Services Page for a Contract Service Business

As you are creating your contract service company website, you are probably hearing about a few different types of pages you need to create, specifically Overarching Service Pages and Sub-service Pages.

Once you understand the distinction between these two types of pages, you will begin to understand how they both serve different purposes.

By creating overarching service pages and sub-service pages for your contract service business website, you are able to communicate the services you offer more easily and gain more leads from your website.

In this article, we will focus on overarching service pages and the common components they are composed of, so you can create an overarching service page for any of your core services.

4 Sections Overarching Service Pages Usually Contain

Before you can start creating your overarching service page, you need to determine what services you want to list as your sub-services. Creating this list will allow you to know what core sub-services you will want to list on your overarching service page.

Additionally, you may have related services that can be grouped in one sub-service category versus two. An example could be HVAC Installation and HVAC Replacement. While these could be listed separately, you could also group them into “HVAC Replacement and Installation.”

Another thing you should consider before you begin writing your overarching service page is whether or not you will be creating sub-service pages right away or later on.

1. A Summary Paragraph That Describes the Service at a High Level

The first paragraph on your overarching service page should introduce your service. It should include high level information about the service, the cities where you provide these kinds of services, and the types of issues you help address with your services.

You can also use this section to briefly educate customers on how often they need to have maintenance done, how long home systems related to your service generally last, and other things they should know about the service.

After you have briefly introduced your service in 2-3 paragraphs, you can include a call to action for customers that may want to call for services right away. This call to action could go something like “To get your [HVAC system repaired, replaced, or serviced] today, reach out to us at 000-000-0000.”

2. A List of Sub-Services Related to the Overarching Service

Once you have introduced your services at a high level, you should either list out your services and link to them or create buttons that link to your sub-services.

This section allows customers to get a quick idea for the sub-services you provide within the service category and enables them to click for more information (if you have the sub-service pages created).

3. A Section That Describes Each of the Sub-Services

Aside from linking to all of the sub-services you offer within the service category, you should also include sections that highlight and describe each of the sub-services, like shown in the example below.

Example of sections describing Air Conditioning Repairs and AC Installation sub-services for an AC Services page

In this example, they highlight two sub-services: Air Conditioning Repairs and AC Installation. We would recommend extending the titles of these service description sections to heading like: “Air Conditioning Repair Services” and “AC Installation and Replacement Services.”

If you have already created sub-service pages, you should link to those pages within these sections, either within the description or as a CTA (call to action) sentence at the end of the paragraph.

4. Frequently Asked Questions Related to the Overarching Service (Optional)

Another great way to bolster your overarching service page is to include frequently asked questions at the bottom of the page. You can format frequently asked questions in two ways:

Example 1:

Example 2:

Example 1 just uses standard headings and paragraph text. Example 2 shows frequently asked questions in a drop down format that viewers can click to open or close.

Example 2 is a cleaner design for FAQs, however, both formats work. Ultimately, the format you choose to use initially for your FAQ sets will typically come down to whether or not your website building platform provides a module that works for an FAQ drop down.

Create Overarching Service Pages To Highlight Your Key Services

Creating an overarching service page can differ from service category to service category, but will generally include similar elements.

The key to making a good service page is to think of the core sub-services that you will cover, so that you can effectively communicate the services you offer.
