What Is a Service Area Page For a Home Service Business

As you are creating your home service business website, you are probably hearing about a lot of different terms and concepts, like Service Area pages.

If you have never created a website before, you might be confused about what a Service Area page is.

Fortunately, most service area pages follow a similar format, making them one of the more straightforward pages on your site.

In this article, we will cover what a Service Area page is for a home service business and answer common questions you may have.

What Is a Service Area Page?

A service area page for a home service business website is a page that contains information about the area you service (cities, services you offer, and more).

This page will contain different information than your Service pages and will generally have its own format.

This page will usually contain a map of your service area and links to your top location pages.

In your main website navigation page, this will be the “Overarching Page” for your location pages.

What Is The Purpose of a Service Area Page?

The purpose of a Service Area page is to show customers where you provide services. This allows them to determine if you would be able to help them.

They will also be able to figure out based on your service area whether you would be able to assist them quickly and if they would have to most likely pay a travel fee for you to come to their home.

Your Service Area page will also communicate to Google where you offer your services, making it more likely that you will rank for those areas.

What Is an Example of a Service Area

At this point, a service area may still be a broad concept to you. So what is a service area exactly?

A service area is a collection of areas that you would offer services in. This could be a portion of a state, a whole state, or multiple states.

Here is an example of a service area for a business in North Carolina:

You will generally want to comprise your service area of cities, rather than getting as specific as towns. However, depending on your area, there may be an exception to including towns.

The reason you will typically want to keep it at the city level is this will allow you to encompass larger areas and more of them in your list.

How Do I Create My Service Area?

To create a service area, you will first start by listing out each of the cities you are able to service. Once you have listed them out, you will then plot the cities you service on a map and then draw a boundary around the area you service.

That boundary should be based on how far around each city you are willing to travel to provide services.

How Many Service Area Pages Should I Create?

Unlike location pages (the pages that will go under your service area page), you will only need to create one main service area page.

However, if your service area expands, you will need to make modifications to this page. For instance, you may start out servicing multiple cities in one state and then expand to multiple states.

If you service multiple states, you will want to adjust how you list out the cities you provide service in so that they are categorized by state. This will make it easier for your prospective customers and Google to understand where you offer service.

What Should I Include on a Service Area Page?

Your service area page should include the following information:

  • A section that covers the areas you offer your services

  • A static or dynamic map of your entire service area

  • A list of the cities where you offer services with links to location pages

The purpose of your Service Area page is to show customers what locations you service and then direct them to pages that cover their area more specifically (location pages).
